Pet Dentistry

Gum disease can increase the chances of secondary health problems in kidney, heart and liver.

Checking your pet’s teeth regularly and looking out for common signs such as bad breath (halitosis), visibly decaying teeth, swollen gums are the most effective ways to prevent gum disease from developing further.

Tooth Brushing
Using a finger brush or specially designed pet toothbrush that has a longer stem will allow you to brush accurately.

Toothpaste
You should never use human toothpaste to clean your pet’s teeth as it can make them sick. Special enzymatic toothpaste is designed for dogs and we stock a variety of brands in our clinics.

Oral Cleansing Gel
Some enzymatic oral gel can control plaque and tartar formation, help prevent bad breath and tooth decay. They are an ideal alternatives when brushing is not practical.

There are synthetic bones and chew toys for dogs that provide mechanical removal of plaque

It is very important to keep your pet’s mouth in good condition as it can lead to other health problems. A routine oral check-up every 6-12 months is important to examine your pet’s teeth and gums so any problems can be detected at an early stage. If the tartar build up is bad enough, your pet will need anesthesia and dental scaling.
